Brazilian New Year rituals are a perfect example of religious syncretism. We pray for the lord, but we also gift Iemanjá, the Sea Goddess of Candomblé and Umbanda, with flowers, mirrors, candles, and jewelry. Brazilians also have a passion for Astrology and its predictions for the future. At the end of the day, the New Year is the perfect time to make our wishes and renew our hope.
